Two forms: long (5% sample survey) and short (remaining 95% of the population). The long form contained both the core and sample questions. Dwelling questions covered 19 provinces/cities, not necessarily corresponding to the sample survey.

Two forms: long (3% sample survey) and short (remaining 97% of the population). The long form contained both the core and sample questions. Dwelling questions were included as core questions (100% of population) and, in rural areas, additional household questions on means of production were included on both long and short forms.

Historical Note

Vietnam has a long record of census taking dating back many centuries. Most early censuses were population counts. The first modern census of Vietnam was conducted in 1979.
