PROVVN identifies the household's province within Vietnam, which is the smallest geographic level identified in the Vietnam samples. The largest geographical level is available in the variable REGIONVN.

Provinces are coded in a three-digit scheme. The first digit, which indicates region, is comparable across time. The second digit, which identifies the districts according to the 1989 census, is also comparable. The third digit provides detail for new districts in 1999.
