Contributions:

  1. Articles should be written in English; a limited number of articles may be published each year in French or German at the discretion of the editors. All book reviews must be written in English. Articles should be no more than 8,000 words in length (approx. 18 printed pages).
  2. Two copies of the manuscript should be submitted for initial consideration. The final draft of a manuscript accepted for publication must be submitted in duplicate and accompanied by a computer disk containing the article, preferrably in Microsoft Word for Windows format. Manuscript pages should be numbered consecutively, double-spaced with wide margins on all sides, and printed on one side of the page only. Submissions should be complete, including all notes, bibliographical references, talbes, etc. Although they will be published as footnotes, notes should be submitted as endnotes, consecutively numbered, double-spaced, and marked in the text with a raised (superscript) numeral.
  3. Articles should include an abstract of not more than 150 words, written in English, that clearly defines the thesis and the sources quoted. The full address of the author should be printed at the end of the manuscript; an e-mail address or fax number should be included when available.
  4. Contributions should be original work that has not been published previously and has not been simultaneously submitted to other journals for publications.

Style:

For general rules on style, see the Chicago Manual of Style,14th [or latest] ed. (Chicago, 1993).

Do not use desktop publishing features such as justification, centering, bold-face type or different fonts. TAB should be restricted to paragraph indent. Do not hyphenate words at the end of a line. Italics may be indicated by either underlining or using an italic typeface.

Production:

The Journal reserves the right to copyedit contributions to conform to its style. Authors of accepted articles will be asked to complete a form concerning the content and copyright of their articles. Authors of accepted contributions will receive two sets of galley proofs for proofreading. These should be returned promptly within the period requested. In the event of a multi-authored contribution, proofs are sent to the first-named author unless otherwise requested.

Offprints:

Authors receive twenty-five (25) complimentary offprints of a published contribution. (Offprints of a multi-authored article are sent to the first-named author.) Authors of book reviews receive eight (8) complimentary offprints. Additional offprints may be purchased when ordered at the proof stage.
