Welcome to the website for the Center for Early Modern History (CEMH).
The Center was established in the Department of History in 1987 as an
outgrowth of faculty and student interest in exploring the early modern
world, roughly 1350 to 1750, from a comparative perspective. CEMH encourages
collegial interaction and scholarly collaboration among its students
and faculty, who collectively represent expertise in most regions of
the globe, through a variety of venues, including undergraduate course
offerings and graduate major and minor fields, research workshops, international
research conferences and the publication of conference proceedings,
a visiting scholar program, colloquia, graduate student research grants,
post-doctoral opportunities, and the publication of a journal devoted
to early modern history in comparative global perspective.
