Learning Abroad

Learning about history in the classroom can be quite rewarding, but it often does not compare to actually seeing history within its own context. By allowing students to see historical sites and monuments, visit world-renowned museums, and simply be exposed to a new culture through its people and customs, studying abroad offers students a variety of new and exciting perspectives on the study of history.

Find general learning abroad information, including programs available, advising, financial aid and scholarships, policies and procedures, and application materials at the Learning Abroad Center.

For information specifically on learning abroad for History majors and minors see the Study Abroad Major and Minor Advising Sheet (PDF)

Early planning and systematic consultation with advisers in the Learning Abroad Center and the department is key to assuring you:

  • find the right program for you
  • meet application or scholarship deadlines
  • are able to apply appropriate courses taken abroad to your major/minor and/or Liberal Education requirements

Only two foreign study history courses may count towards the required upper division courses for the major.  Only one foreign study course may count in the area of concentration.  All foreign study courses have to be petitioned upon the students return for inclusion as part of the major.  Please speak with the Undergraduate Studies Office advisers about this process before you go abroad.
