Are the ideas that we consider founding ideas (i.e. ideas that are
represented by Paine, the Declaration, and presidential rhetoric) represented
by the Constitution proper or the Bill of Rights? What does this say about
the men who wrote these documents? Why did a large portion of our founding
fathers fight very hard to NOT to acquiesce to the ideas here expressed?
After
reading the U.S. documents, can you now better answer the question WHO the
revolution was fought for and WHY?
What
differences/similarities do you see between the Declaration of the Rights
of Man and the Bill of Rights/Preamble to the U.S. Constitution? How do
you account for the differences?
How
does de Gouges define freedom? How will freedom be brought to everyone?
In
what way will justice be brought about according to Robespierre? How does
this differ from de Gouges?
