How does my topic relate to the theme of the section I am in?
The themes for the major paper have been designed to be very broad in scope. No two students will be doing a paper on the exact same topic. But every student will be doing a paper that falls somewhere within the limits of the theme. This is to insure that the instructor will have some expertise to assist each student, even if the instructor is not the expert in the field for every student’s topic.
If you are deciding between two very distant topics that would fall into different theme sections, pick the section for the topic that holds the greater interest for you. To help with this selection, it is wise to speak with the instructors and do some initial research on your topic during the semester preceding the term in which you intend to write the paper.
