What are themes and how do they relate to the course?
The major paper seminars (Hist 4941W) are themed seminars that bring together instructors and students with similar interests. These themes offer a broad range of topics that appeal to students’ research interests and also span geographic areas and chronological concentrations. This will better build upon and foster direct connections between existing coursework and area of concentration, facilitate the research and writing process, and help produce a project that is both rewarding and successful.
The themes are:
- Culture, Religion, Ideas, Media;
- Economy, Enterprise , Environment;
- Empire;
- Gender, Sexuality, Family;
- Law, State, Society;
- Race, Ethnicity, Migration;
- War, Conflict, Peace, Diplomacy;
- Open Theme
There is specific prerequisite coursework required for each section (except for the Open Theme). The complete list of courses that satisfy the prerequisites is listed with each theme.
