Alan FujishinA native of Oregon, Alan attended the College of Idaho where he earned a BA in History, Politics & Economics, and Spanish. This is his third year as a PhD student of History at the University of Minnesota. His research focuses on the social response to natural disasters in Modern Mexico and issues of historical memory and identity construction. |

Melissa KelleyI grew up in Michigan and moved to Massachusetts to attend Smith College, where I received my BA. I quickly abandoned the East Coast and paralegal-ing to study Modern German and Central European history here at Minnesota, inspired in part by a seven-month stay in the Czech Republic. |

David MortonDavid Morton, a native of the Washington, D.C. area, is in his third year at Minnesota, at work on his PhD in African history. In a previous career he was a journalist, with long stops in Cleveland, Washington, and Brazil. His last job was as correspondent for the UN's humanitarian news service in Mozambique, the former Portuguese colony where his current research is focused. He earned a B.A. in history from Yale in 1997. |
