Tuition & Fees

Two-part Tuition Scale

Specific information concerning tuition and fees is available in the U of M's One Stop website. There is a two-part tuition scale for students:

  • Resident rates for students who habitually reside in Minnesota
  • Non-resident rates for students from outside Minnesota

Qualifying for Resident Rates

Teaching assistants, reader/graders, research assistants, instructors, and fellowship holders who are appointed at least 50% time qualify for resident rates. Thus tuition is covered at resident rates by the appointment.

Note: Once you have taken all 24 thesis credits, you MUST register for the full-time equivalent (FTE) credit when on a graduate appointment through the history department and use the correct job code that covers the correct registration.
