Applications

By completing an Application for Admission you are applying for Admission and Departmental Funding. All of our admitted students are offered multi-year funding packages. Support in the first year may consist of a teaching or research assistantship or a fellowship. We consider all applicants for nomination for Graduate School Fellowships and Department Endowed Fellowships.

The Department of History requires completion of The Graduate School application. When completing The Graduate School application online, we ask that you upload your supplemental History submission materials (outlined below) into your Graduate School through the ApplyYourself Application Network.  If you are not completing your application through ApplyYourself, or if you have further questions, please contact the Department of History.

Please note that although The Graduate School application gives you several options for degree objective and admission term, the History Department admits only to the Ph.D. program during the Fall semester

The deadline for submission of materials is December 1. Materials received after the deadline may not be in your file in time for departmental review.

Letters of Recommendation

Three letters are necessary. Please use the online system through the Graduate School application to identify your recommenders. We prefer that recommenders submit online, but recommenders also have the option of mailing the recommendation by placing the letter in an envelope with a signed Recommendation Waiver Form (through The Graduate School online recommendation system), then seal and sign across the seal. We prefer letters from academic references over letters from nonacademic employers.
